Marching Band

So Ian is now in the high school marching band.

I have so many photos to share, but we have been so busy lately I have not had a chance to go through them all.

I went to Ian's last day of band camp and video taped the kids on their 1st complete run though.  Because I am on the same level as the kids and it is a bit hard to see what they are doing.  Ian is the one with the white sousaphone (tuba).
(*the kids in black are all the seniors and will be leaving next year.)

Thursday night was their 1st Uniformed Rehearsal.  It was pretty cool to watch what he has been practicing.  I am impressed he learned to move like that in a week while carrying a huge instrument and play at the same time.

Today is their first competition!  Can't wait to watch.

Wordful Wednesday - One more sleep.

Only 1 more sleep until my kids go back to school!  Doing happy dance.

***Don't get me wrong, I am sad that summer is ending & I love my kids, but I am happy for them to be going back to school.***

Typically we start school the day after Labor Day in our town.  This year they start tomorrow (Thursday).

Yesterday Ian & I went back to add more things to his locker.   I know my last post had a photo of his locker, but I had to take more with my better camera.  Yep, I made him stand next to it to take photos...I am embarrassing that way.  ;)

Today I am dropping off my daughter's supplies at her school.  Lily's 1st grade list wasn't that bad compared to Ian's 1st grade list (which had 23 glue sticks on it that year...seriously crazy).  These lists are really out of hand.  I never bought this many supplies when I was in college.  It's nuts.  I am still trying to figure out how he is supposed to bring home all these binders to do homework.  O_o

Only one more sleep.

I am giving away one of these over on my facebook page here.

I can not believe that the kids are going back to school soon.

Moving Up

A week ago Wed (June 19th) was Ian's 6th grade Moving Up Ceremony.

First we listed to the orchestra play and then the chorus sing.  Ian was a bit upset and unfair that the 6th grade band didn't get to also play, but such as life.

After that they handed out some awards.  First Ian won an Art Award.
Then the band & orchestra teachers handed out their awards.  The band teacher handed out Band Student of the Year awards to one boy and one girl.  Ian won the award in band.  I can not get over that he is taller than her now.
Then they handed out folders with all of their achievements for the year.  Ian was first up.  (Gotta love the last name Adey.)  Ian received the Silver Award for Academic Achievement, Concert Band, All County, Cadet Band, Jazz Band, District Jazz Band and his Certificate of Completion.
We are so proud of you sweetie!
Then the picture taking commenced.  :)

Ian with his band teacher.  LOVE this woman.  She ROCKS.  Best yet, she is also going to be teaching over at the middle school next year, too.  She will probably not be Ian's instructor, but we will get to see her.  Super excited for her.
Jimmy (my nephew) came to the ceremony with us.  He is going into 8th next year.  They will both be in the same building again.  :)
I will be definitely sending these photos in when they are seniors for the slideshow.  :)
Boys are such goofballs.

Thank you Mrs. Homes & Ms. Wirth for a great year.  (Ian's regular teacher, Ms Homes, was pregnant and left at the end of October to have her baby and Ms. Worth took over after that.)  Here is a picture of Ms. Wirth.
WOW, I still can not believe how fast the last 7yrs have gone by.  I can still remember him going to Kindergarten.

This year is unusual in the West Seneca elementary schools because 5th grade is also moving up.  Next year our middle school will be a 6, 7 & 8 grade building.  (It used to be just a 7 & 8 building.)

Kindergarten Celebration

A week ago Tuesday (June 18th) was Lily's Kindergarten Celebration.  It was the second to last day of school.
The kids looked so cute up there.  Lily's class is the one on the left.
The kids sang songs which were adorable.  Here is one of them.

Then the kids were called one by one to receive their certificates.
After we had cake and juice in the cafeteria.
We are super proud of you sweetie!  You did a great job this year.
Thank you Mrs. DuCotey for an amazing year.  You did an amazing job and Lily LOVED your class.

School Track Meet

On Wednesday, I went to watch my eldest in the annual district elementary track and field meet. (All of the 5th & 6th grade children participate.)  Last year I didn't go...honestly I didn't know parents were aloud to go and watch.  This year Ian asked if I would come and take photos.  :)

Ian & his friends spotted me as soon as I arrived. (Thankfully, I had no idea if I would find them in the sea of over 1000 kids.)
At first I stayed down on the sidelines and watched.  Then we were told we could go sit with the kids.
Finally it was time to walk down to his event.  He had signed up to do the 50m race.

I went down the end and waited until his heat.

Then it happened.

Ian went DOWN.

He went down hard.  Then he got back up and finished the race.
He was banged up pretty good.  His knee, elbow & back were scrapped up.  I am thankful the track was paved and not crushed stone or we would still be picking it out.  I was pretty upset that not one adult pointed out where the nurses station was or offered to walk him over there.  I am soooo glad I was there.  I found his teacher and then found the nurses station where they patched him up (as well as they could).

He finished up his other 2 events (triple jump and pull ups).  He was in alot of pain...

Poor kid.  His hand hurt really bad.
Then he was all finished and ready to cheer on the rest of his friends and relax.

Ian is still pretty sore.  He says his lower back hurts the most.  The scraps are looking better...still have some black tar we can't get off his leg.  Could have been much worse.

Softball + Artshow + Bookfair = Great Night

Whew what a busy day!

This is how our day ended.

First we went to Softball practice.  (Lily is playing softball (ponytail division) this year.)
Brothers do silly things while waiting for softball practice to end.
Then we rushed over to the bookfair/artshow, grabbed some books and checked out Lily's artwork.
What a great way to spend a Friday night.

Wordful Wednesday - Lily's Field Trip

Tis the time of year for field trips and school fun.

Yesterday morning Lily's class went on a field trip to Explore & More Children's Museum.  The kids had a great time exploring the different exhibits.
Lily as a butterfly in the Mexico exhibit.
Lily wearing wooden shoes in the Holland exhibit.
