Big Day!

Yesterday was the big day!
When it was their turn to perform, I was soooo nervous for Ian.
These kids are a great bunch.  They even have a mini "tuba" meeting after each warm-up.  :D
They did an amazing job yesterday performing.

LOVE it!!
Just awesome!

After all of the bands played from both Large School Divisions.  It was score time.  All of the bands take the field.
As a parent, it was nerve wracking when the announcer was calling out the scores and schools for each place.  With each one called we got closer and closer to 1st.  So when they called 2nd place.....we knew we were the only ones left!  I have a sore throat this morning from hooting and hollering so much and many happy tears were shed.
Well, they did it!

West Seneca Marching Band came in 1st place in their division yesterday at the Carrier Dome!!!

We met up with the band at a rest area on the way home.  :)

The 4 tubas (sousaphones).  The 2 on the left are seniors this year and the one behind Ian is a Junior.

Ian is sooooo happy and on cloud 9.  What a way to start off 6 years of high school Marching Band!  I am so proud of all that he as put into this & how much he absolutely LOVES it. Can't wait to do it again next year!

Big Day

Today is the marching band home show here in West Seneca.

Yesterday I made my smores on a stick for the bake sale.

Lily wanted to make a sign to hold.  We even added some glitter to the stars and notes.
Now I am just hoping the rain will hold off for the performances!

Wordful Wednesday - Tuba Boy

These are from last weekend's competition in Orchard Park.  His teacher spray painted the bell gold and bought some new black pads for his sousaphone and he was so happy.  On a sad note, he put his hat down on the bus and it was 'lost' for the competition so he couldn't wear it.  He was very upset he didn't have his hat.  Thankfully people found the hat when they cleaned off the bus.  :D

Only 2 more competitions (our home show here in West Seneca is this weekend) and then they play the Championships in Syracuse University Carrier Dome.

Wordful Wednesday - Cheering

On Friday we went to our first football high school game.  Ian plays the home games (in addition to competing) so we decided to check one out.
We decided to stick around after dropping off Ian and just hung out.  We watched some of a volleyball game and then watched the football teams warm up.  Brought me back to when I was younger going to my local football games.
We pointed out the cheerleaders to Lily.  She thought they looked sooooo cool.
Conversation with Lily before the game.  (We saw some cheerleaders walking around.)

Lily - "Momma"
Me  - "Yes Lily"
Lily - "Are those cheerleaders?"
Me  - "Yes Lily"
Lily - "Do they do autographs?
Me  - "Not normally, but I am sure they will if you ask them."

Lily - "Cool!"
Me  - "You don't have anything for them to sign"
Lily - "I can bring something next time. How about my shirt or sneakers?"

Lily - "Can I go say hi?"

Kids are the cutest!

After each cheer the girls did, Lily would say, "Go Cheerleaders!"

Marching Band

So Ian is now in the high school marching band.

I have so many photos to share, but we have been so busy lately I have not had a chance to go through them all.

I went to Ian's last day of band camp and video taped the kids on their 1st complete run though.  Because I am on the same level as the kids and it is a bit hard to see what they are doing.  Ian is the one with the white sousaphone (tuba).
(*the kids in black are all the seniors and will be leaving next year.)

Thursday night was their 1st Uniformed Rehearsal.  It was pretty cool to watch what he has been practicing.  I am impressed he learned to move like that in a week while carrying a huge instrument and play at the same time.

Today is their first competition!  Can't wait to watch.

Main Street Philharmonic

Love catching some of the street performers on Main St. in Magic Kingdom.  While waiting for the 3 o'clock parade to start I got to see the Main Street Philharmonic.  I have never seen them perform before.
So, Ian are you going to learn some "disney" songs for mom?  ;)

Wordless Wednesday - Community Days

On Saturday both of my children marched in our West Seneca Community Days' Parade.  Last year Ian marched with the Cadet Band.  This year Ian marched with the West Seneca High School Marching Band and Lily marched with her softball team.

We dropped Ian off really early at the school.  They practice for a couple hours before they step off.  It was a warm steamy one here on Sat.  Thankfully there was a breeze.

First we saw Ian.
He is the one with the white tuba in the back left...
(the brass sousaphone is too heavy right now, so he is using a fiberglass one.)

And then they were gone.
Then we waited to to see the Cadet Band, but before they reached us their were a few pretty cool pipers.

Then the Cadet band.  Ian was a tiny bit sad he didn't march with them one more time and was worried about leaving his fellow tuba player to be all alone.
After they passed us, we decided to walk down the street and catch up with Lily.  I was a bit nervous because when Jeff dropped her off 15 minutes before the parade was going to start only a couple people were there.  Leaving my 6 year old in the midst of chaos just made me a wee bit uneasy.  Of course she was fine.  I was shocked there wasn't more kids.  Her team had the most show up, which was 5.
They both had a great time marching in the parade.

Fitting

Last night we went to go get Ian's Marching Band uniform fitted.
He doesn't get to wear one of the hats (in the background) with the feather plume.  It would get in the way of the bell on the sousaphone.  He wears one like this instead.

My baby looked so grown up in his uniform.

On crazy note...we bought a size 11 (mens) marching shoe.  O_o
