Sunday Citar - Birthday

"Presents don't really mean much to me. I don't want to sound mawkish, but - it was the realization that I have a great many people in my life who really love me, and who I really love."  ~ Gabriel Byrne

Today is my 39th Birthday.  As I look back and reflect, I thought this quote fit how I feel about birthday's perfectly.
(My sister, Aunt Peggy (my mom's Aunt) and myself)

As a child, just like my kids, I wondered what gifts I would receive for my birthday.
(me, my mom, my sister & my dad, circa my 7th birthday 1980)
As I got older, the ideas of birthdays and presents changed.  I grew up and learned that I should cherish memories more than objects.  I do not wish for anything but a nice day with my family on my birthday.  While I can not spend this special day with the rest of my family (in this photo) because they do not live near, I love them more than words.  This day is as much about them as it is about me.

Ok, so on a funny note....I just realized that my mom is younger in this photo (she is 27) than I was when I had Ian.

Sunday Citar - Mom

Mother, the ribbons of your love are woven around my heart.  ~Author Unknown
These photos are circa September 1983.   I am not quite 10 and my sister is not quite 7.  (Our birthday's are both in November.) Smurfs and rainbows!  LOVE it!

Love you mom!

Happy Mother's Day!

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

August 1984
10yrs old
Growing up my parent's had a huge garden in our backyard behind the garage.  One day my father let me use his lawnmower....
This was the first and only time I have mowed the lawn in my whole life.  I am pretty sure it was for a photo op and then he took the lawnmower back and finished mowing.  My father really enjoyed mowing the lawn.
Love you dad!

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

June 1982
From left to right...my friend Heidi (age8), Me (age8), my sister Heidi (age5).  Yep, I had 2 braids FOREVER.  I remember loving that outfit, I am pretty sure it was my aunt's (I loved getting her hammy downs).  My friend, Heidi, lived across the street from us in that red house that is in the left corner of the photo.  I remember those strollers my sister & I have in the photos.  Wonder what happened to them.  I still have my dolly, it's Lily's now.
We had just moved into this house a few months before and my father was cleaning up the yard.  There were bushes along either side of the house and my father cut them back.

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

So I have been a blog slacker this week.  We got home from my parents house on Saturday evening.  I brought back with me ALL of my parent's photos.  My sister had scanned in a TON a few months ago and created a book with her childhood in it.  I have decided I want to do the same thing.  Actually I am pretty much scanning most of the photos.  So on Sunday I decided to bring up my scanner/printer from the basement (or what I like to refer to as the cave).  After spending hours trying to get my scanner/printer to work with my laptop (I was getting pretty frustrated and I am wishing for that part of my life back) my husband figured it out.  I have been scanning photos ever since.  I have done 1.5 books (pretty much 1.5 yrs of photos) and have 5.5 more books & 3 boxes to go.  I have to say, majority of the photos are organized & dated (thank you mom) so it makes it easier.  I am not looking forward to doing the 3 boxes...because they are not dated, but each roll is in the envelope they came in.

Now onto this weeks flashback...

This one is for my mom.

On August 5th, 1984 my parents went and saw Rod Stewart in concert in Rochester, NY.  Can you believe floor tickets were only $15.00!!

My mom was a HUGE fan.  (Here is a photo of her after the concert)
Turns out Rod Stewart was staying in the same hotel as my parents stayed in after the concert.  After the concert my parents saw Rod Stewart in a van outside.  My dad took these shots...

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

February 1981
Age 7
This photo was taken on a beach on Lake Ontario outside of Rochester (we lived in Rochester until I was in 3rd grade).  I can totally see Ian in this photo.  Holey Moley!

Thank you all for your kind words about my hair.  I have actually had a haircut similar to this before (many many years ago).  The funny thing is I have looked through most of my old photos and can not find any of my hair this short.  I took a shower this morning and styled it.  I just have to get used to it.  My hair grows pretty fast...the layers will grow out quickly.

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

Softball 1986
Age 12

I only played softball in 7th&8th grade.  I was not very good...I am not really a sporty person.  I am loving the feathered hair.  What was I thinking?  Up until this year, my hair had been long and in 2 braids. After badgering my mom for years, she finally agreed to let me get my haircut and this is what I wanted.  What was I thinking?  Holey Helmet Head!  Hello, AquaNet Hairspray!  (I am shocked I didn't fly away with those wings)  How about those glasses?  They were pink on the bottom and brown on the top, stylin!  They were my first pair of glasses.

I am loving Facebook lately.  I have gone crazy scanning in old photos.  I have been added them all to facebook, tagging people that are in them.

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

April 1989
Age 15
10th Grade High School Art

I found these unfinished drawings in my sketch pad.  Yes...it seems I keep everything.
My son has a painting of this dragon in his room that I painted in high school or college.  I seemed to really like this dragon.
