Feeding Deer

The other day I wrote how Lily's favorite experience at Marineland was feeding the baluga whale

Ian's favorite thing we did at Marineland was feeding the deer.  (I remember doing this here as a kid.)
At first there were plenty of deer that wanted food.

Or I should say a couple piggies.  ;)
Then we walked to the other side (it is a huge circle) to see if we could feed other ones.
These deer were skidish.
Eventually we fed a few more.
The kids had a great time.

Wordful Wednesday

On Sunday we went with friends to the 2012 Wildlife Festival at the New York Power Vista.  It was a bit cold, but warmed up a bit by the time we left.

While we were there we saw these beautiful birds.

The golden eagle was just beautiful!

We also saw lots of different other animals, learned about electricity and watched a couple of shows.  Not to mention the yummy fair food we had.

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

Last week, I showed photos of my grandmother in the side yard of her grandmother's home.  This week here are 2 more photos of my grandmother in front of the house.  There used to be a wrap around porch, that they have since removed.

This photo is from 1938 when my grandmother was around 9yrs old.  She is on the porch with her Nana, but not sure who the 2 gentlemen in the photo are.  I think they may be her uncles.

This is my grandmother at at 16.  It's wild to see a horse on the front lawn....especially seeing what the house looks like today.  (There are photos of the house in a post I wrote about Niagara On The Lake.)

Take Me Back Tuesday & Flashback Friday

When my grandmother came and visited a couple months ago, I showed her my blog books.  She LOVED looking through them.  She took a couple books with her when she went to dinner with her brothers & sisters to show them.

When we were looking through them, we came upon the post about Niagara on the Lake.  In the post I had written about remembering seeing a photo of my grandmother with chickens in the side yard of her grandmother's home.

A few weeks later photos arrived in the mail.

This is my grandmother in 1929 (or 1928) in her Nana's side yard.
I ended up scanning in both sides of all the photos.  Just so I don't forget the info that is written on them and because my grandmother's handwriting is on them.
I will share the rest next week.

Wordless Wednesday - Reflection

Reflection

This is my entry to the Blue Ribbon Contest: Sapphire

While we were in Niagara Falls, Canada I took this photo of the Sheridan Hotel. I love how the clouds reflected in the glass of the windows. You can see more photos here on a post I wrote last week.

Happy Wordless Wednesday.

Did you guess?

Yesterday I posted the photo to the left and was wondering if anyone could guess where it was taken. Monday was such a beautiful day, the sun was shining and it was supposed to be 69 degrees. We decided to take advantage of such a beautiful day, so we took a small trip only 30 minutes away and this is what we saw...Frankenstein eating a burger...

Which was on top of the Burger King... (my husband told me I do touristy really well with my camera...lol)

The Fudge Factory where I used to buy (way before kids) LOTS and LOTS of beanie babies (yes...I must confess, I have a lot of those in my attic). I have to admit it did not look like this then...

Inside looks even better...

We even played in a beautiful park, called the Oakes Garden Theatre.

The kids had a ball running up and down the big hill. It was such a beautiful day.

My husband had everyone do something silly.

Sneaking kisses.

Have you guessed it yet?

We went to Niagara Falls, Canada. It is so beautiful on the Canadian side of the border. I really wish the US would get their crap together and make our side look like theirs. My son really wants to go back. There is so much to see and do. The pictures of the shops/museums were taken on what is known as Clifton Hill which has changed a TON since they put the casino in the old Maple Leaf Village in 1996. That garden is beautiful and one of my favorite things...beside looking at the beautiful landmark, Niagara Falls.

Have any of you been to the falls in the winter? No, I am not crazy and yes it is cold. The falls are just GORGEOUS in the winter!! All of the mist sticks to everything and leaves this sparkly icy coating over every surface. Yes, you do have to be careful because it does get slippery. I have to laugh because one of the times my parents took us there as children I can vividly remember my father reminding us to be careful and then he went down with a big thud.

Take Me Back Tuesday

A Giveaway Addicted Mommy

July 1980
My mother's great-uncle was the driver of the Maid of the Mist on the Canadian side. (I wrote about his brother here on a different take me back post). We had so much fun! We even got to sit in the captain's chair and I got to wear his hat.
