Winter Wonderland

One week down!  Doing Happy Dance.  (If you don't know what I am talking about, you can read more about my new job here.)  Everyone is still adjusting here.  The day I gave birth to my son was the last full time, regular paying job I had.  I have had a couple part time jobs and my Whimsical Creations business since, but not a full time job for an employer.  Now that the kids are both in school, I am very happy to be back in the workforce.  It doesn't hurt that I telecommute.  :)

Telecommuting, I saw this outside my window today....
It has been a winter wonderland here all day.
At times it was snowing pretty hard.  It was heavy wet snow.

It was the kind of snow that stuck to the trees.
How is the weather where you live?

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Sunday Citar - Snow

"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?" ~
J. B. Priestley

Last year was a mild winter here in Western New York.  This year was starting that way...then bam, we got dumped on a couple days after Christmas.
Lily was sooooo excited when she woke up.  She has been really wanting to go play in the snow.  I remember feeling the same way as a kid.  Not so much anymore.  (I am really not fond of cold weather.)  So I sent Ian out to play with her. ;)
I stood on the porch and took a few photos. Then I promptly went back in the house and wished for Spring to hurry up and come.  ;)

The Beauty of Winter

Last week while the kids were gone it snowed...
It is so beautiful when it snows at night and sticks to the trees.

I used to work overnights at a hotel many many years ago and I LOVED watching the snow fall.  I was so serene.

Please note...the snow is gone.  It melted the next day.  Last night we had a thunderstorm roll through.  Thankfully this winter has been very mild.  Last year it was awful!

Holey Snow Batman!!

We had gotten lots of rain Tuesday night and yesterday morning.  When we get that much rain, it comes in my basement.  *sigh*  Then it turned to snow.  It snowed most of the day, but really did not stick.

It was ok, because I spent most of the day yesterday packaging orders. (Thank you to everyone who has purchased one of my creations!)  When I left the house to go to the post office around 4pm there was a dusting of snow on the ground.  I didn't even have to clean off the car.  I got 1/2 way across town the roads were terrible and it was snowing REALLY heavy!!  Crazy!  I got to the post office safely and then went to the grocery store to pick up a couple things.  When I got home it had started to snow here a bit.  I watched it snow for the rest of the night and we even had some thunder & lightning.  It was wild.

I woke up this morning at 5am to the beep beep beep of a front loader trying to get a snowplow unstuck in front of my house.  It took them almost an hour to get it out.

When I turned on the news I found out that most of the thruway here in Buffalo (I-90) & the 400 had been closed all night....as I started to write this at 3pm, it is still closed and there are tractor trailers and cars stuck all along it.

So when we finally went outside to dig out around 7am this is what we saw...
It has not stopped snowing!  It is supposed to stop around 11pm tonight.  Nuts!  The grass was green yesterday.  Alright, I know I live in Buffalo, but usually we don't get this much in that short of time.  Typically that much snow is south of here in ski country.

We ventured out this afternoon to this...my white picket fence at the end of my driveway
Behind Ian's head is a car that is buried.
My neighbor's fence in the front is almost gone...(and those lumps are my neighbor's cars)
I just shoveled the snow off the porch ROOF because it was covering the window.
A photo of my backyard.  (Remember I took photos of the kids in the leaves there a couple weeks ago!?!)
Seriously!
At least the kids are having fun.  They had a snow day today and have called for a snow day tomorrow.

Loving her forced smile and shifty eyes...but look at that snow on the hat.  ADORABLE!
It's kinda freaky when you look out the front window and your you can see your son like this...
Because it looks like this...
Currently there is a driving ban in West Seneca (where I live) and South Buffalo.  (I live by the border of the 2 towns.)

I have a favor to ask, could you go and "like" my santa ornament that I submitted to the Better Homes & Gardens Ornament Contest.  Thank you sooooo much!!

Wordless Wednesday-Snow & Joy

On Monday afternoon it finally decided to snow here in Buffalo. After going out to dinner the kids decided to run around in the snow.
Lily HATED the snow the past couple years. This year she seems to LOVE it.

They had so much fun throwing snowballs at daddy. (Ian could not throw them at me because I had the camera...hahaha)

Have I told you that my kids bring such...
I would also like to introduce you to Fredrick the Owl.

I have a favor to ask of my blog readers. I entered my swirly santa ornament in the Michaels Handmade Holiday Contest. I would LOVE to win. (who wouldn't?) Would you please go here and give me 5 snowmen. No need to register...just click through and click 5 snowman (under the picture of my santa click on the last snowman). Thanks a bunch!!

Please note: You can vote once a day.

Happy WW!

Another Winter Storm

So we got hit by another snow storm on Sunday. It was SUPER windy. My husband decided that we really should get a snowblower. After discussing it, we decided on an electric one. Yea, sounds a bit silly because of where we live, but we live in a really small house with no garage. We had to figure out where we were going to store it. We could either but in the shed in the back yard or in our Florida room. I felt comfortable with an electric one in the Florida room.

Before I went to bed at around 10pm, this was what my Florida room looked like. I had to shove the door shut and lock it. While doing this my bathrobe stuck to the door because the inside of the door was full of ice. And I got a call at 9:45pm that school was closed on Monday.Thank the heavens we bought that snowblower...this is what was at my back door. Turns out the suburb of Buffalo I live in got 15.5 inches of snow.
The snow had blown around so much it had stuck to the side of everything. I couldn't see out half my windows.
This is what the inside of my door looked like.
Pardon these picks, but it wasn't light out and these were taken with out a flash. When I used the flash all you could see was it snowing. By the way, that snowblower ROCKS! It may sound like my vacuum cleaner, but it cut though that snow fantastic!!
The snow came out this afternoon. My in laws live south of me and they are still getting hammered with the white stuff.

Psssst....yep I still went out to 'clean up' the driveway with my shovel.

SNOW!!!!

We were like most of the country and got hit with lots of the white stuff on Friday. All of the schools in this area were closed on Friday because they didn't want to have trouble getting the kids home. They were comparing this storm to the one that hit here in the afternoon at the end of Nov. 2000. I got stuck at work that day/night. It wasn't pretty. Our parking lot at work looked like a bomb had gone off. There were cars littered everywhere. That was a VERY long night! After hearing that and seeing how much snow had been dumped everywhere else in the country, it was a smart idea the kids stayed home.

I went out to shovel at around 11 am and holey moley lots of snow already! That's when I let the kids, my son and the girl I babysit, out to play. They had a ball.... And then it was time to come in....freezing!! BRRRRR cold!I went out a couple more times and it was a mess! When the plow finally went by we were plowed in. I have to share a funny thing about me. I am the person who shovels in my family. I am anal about going out and getting the driveway clean. My friends make fun of me. I will not mow my lawn, but I LOVE to shovel. I am not a fan of the cold, but I LOVE to shovel. I am MY father's daughter. As a child I have many memories of my dad going out and shoveling all the time. The funny thing is I never really went out to help him. When I moved out 15 years ago my father gave me a shovel. He put my name on the handle and put polyurethane on it. He told me to keep it in the trunk of my car. One of the BEST pieces of advice he ever gave me. I was one of a couple people who had a shovel that day in Nov 2000....it ended up being one busy shovel. I had that same shovel until 3 years ago when it finally broke.
