Take Me Back Tuesday

1993
College Art

In college I took a painting class. One of our assignments was to find a famous painting and paint only a portion of it. For some reason I picked the most creepy thing I could paint. Once I painted it I had to turn it around because it creeped everyone out. (BTW...I also painted a trio of Mickey Mouses in the class, one of which hangs in my son's room & 2 were given to a friend for a shower present.)

The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli (1791).

Wow, you definitely picked an interesting painting to work from! Although slightly creepy, your painting is very well done. I'm very impressed Melanie!

Oh, I hated that lesson! We had to do the same and I remember thinking, "this is not right. I am stealing someone's work." As if mine would exceed the greatness of Edvard Munch and thereafter, the painting would be known as my creation. (I guess I might have been a tad delusional).

Yours looks great and gosh darn it, I like creepy.

What I think is especially funny is how girly and sweet your blog is and then to see that you would pick such a "scary" picture to recreate... You are just a closet rebel perhaps?

That's awesome, but not as creepy as you think. Remember Phoebe's creations on the show "Friends"? Now THAT was creepy. Lovely painting talent, really. =)

How cool! I had to take some painting courses in college too (majored in Graphic Design). I stunk, though. I loved the paint, and painting, but I had no talent what-so-ever in the painting department. You did GREAT!!
