Contests and Giveaways
As most of my friends know I love giveaways and contests. This past weekend I won a pair of earrings. Last week I won soap and a couple of weeks ago I won a gift certificate to a fantastic jewelry shop on Etsy. As I receive the items I will do write ups on the lovely shops and share my fantastic items I receive.
I received this fabulous Sweet Shea Butter Soap in the mail this week. This natural & organic soap is from the etsy store Soapcre8ions, http://www.soapcr8ions.etsy.com/. I won this because I killed a thread on Esty Forums. I should have a complex, but I don't because this is fabulous bar of soap smells so good. I gave this to my friend today for a little something nice. She loved it!
Not only do they have homemade soaps, they also have spa salts, scrubs and balms.
The Etsy group I belong to, FAM, is running a Back to School contest. This contest is running from July 28th through August 10th, 2008. To play find the Hidden Owls or make a purchase to be entered into a drawing for amazing FAM BUCK prizes. Go get all of the details here http://fam-fabulousartisticmoms.blogspot.com/.
So I have spent the past couple of days entering blog giveaways. This site does this quarterly, maybe next quarter I will participate. Wow, when I started on Monday there were 100 as of this evening there are 900 of them. So many good things to win and so many great blogs to read. Check out the contest by clicking on the bloggy giveaways button on my page.

I'm a winner!
I absolutely love scavenger hunts on etsy. Last Saturday morning BeadRee at http://beadree.etsy.com/ had a scavenger hunt in the Etsy forums.
To win I had to find both the red and blue ladybugs in her listings and be the first to convo her with the listings. She till has them listed can you find them? I had a ball looking though her lovely shop and so will you. I absolutely love the creativity she has with her pictures along with her pretty jewelry.
This is the beautiful set I won!

Playing with clay...
My son has been watching me make my clay creations ever since I can remember. He has been asking to make something out of my clay for a while now. Last night I sat down with him and let him have fun. I gave him his own tile to work on and asked him what he wanted to make. He told me he wanted to make a Piplup. For those people who don't know what that is, it's a Pokemon. My son has loved Pokemon for the past 2 years. He had a great time making his creation.
First he had to condition the clay....(of course while watching tv)
Putting finishing touches on him and making beads with the scraps....
Piplup is all finished. (The one he made is on the right...hehehehe)
I think he did great job for a 7 year old who has never worked with polymer clay before.Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Felted Treasures....
Every other Tuesday from 5pm-midnight the ETSY group I belong to, FAM, does something called Take 10 Tuesday. Shops participate by having a sale and some of them hide a secret somewhere in their store. I have fun finding the secrets.
Valerie also sent me one of her awesome mini felted bowls as a little thank you. My son has already tried taking it to go with his stuffies.
Last Tuesday I found 2 completely free secrets. Today I would like to share one of them. I received this pretty pink felted flower pony tail holder from Valeries Gallery at http://valeriesgallery.etsy.com/. This pony is crocheted and felted with 100% wool and embellished with tiny beads. It is so pretty.
Valerie also sent me one of her awesome mini felted bowls as a little thank you. My son has already tried taking it to go with his stuffies.
Here are a few more of her wonderful felted treasures. She is also having a raffle to celebrate her one year anniversary on Etsy...enter here on her blog http://feltedtreasures.blogspot.com/

All the Little Stuffies....
I want to share my mother's love of crocheting with everyone. She has tried to show me to crochet, but I'll leave it up to her. She has been making these 'mini stuffies' for my son for the past few years now. He loves getting packages in the mail from my mom. You never know what new mini stuffy you will get next. She crochets using patterns made for larger animals and does them with a smaller hook and thinner thread. It's so hard to choose a favorite. I love them all for different reasons. Which one is your favorite? Here are just a few. Come check out the rest of my sons collection here... http://www.flickr.com/photos/melaniescrafts/sets/72157606057766884/

About Me
Hello!
My name is Melanie and I live in Buffalo, NY. I have lived in Western New York all of my life.
(BTW...NO, it is really not as snowy here as everyone thinks.)
I am the artist behind Whimsical Creations. My family is really crafty and I have loved creating things since I can remember. I started making ornaments out of salt dough as a child with my mom. Over time I changed from Salt Dough to Polymer Clay.
I am married to a wonderful man and we have 2 beautiful (yes, I am bias) children together, a son and a daughter. I have an addiction to all things Disney.
I also love to scrapbook, paint, make jewelry, enter giveaways and take photos...TONS of photos!! According to my husband I love a great photo-op.
My blog is about my life, family, my creations and my finds along the way.
Hope you enjoy my blog. Please come back and visit again.
XOXO

New Creation...my sock monkey
I finally finished him! Last night I created my sock monkey figure out of polymer clay. He was inspired by fellow FAM (fabulous artistic moms), http://elegantsnobbery.etsy.com/ and http://bamdesigns.etsy.com/. I love how he turned out. He measures 1 1/5 inches tall. I need to make an ornament next.
